Real Time Ultrasound Imaging (RTUI) is an effective and more reliable way to accurately assess and strengthen the stability muscles of your spine and pelvic floor. By watching the RTUI screen, the patient can use this as an effective and visual feedback tool to ensure a more accurate contraction while exercising. It also assists with familiarizing the patient to the exercises to ensure that the patient feels confident to be able to complete these exercises independently.
Real Time Ultrasound Imaging
The Real Time Ultrasound is an effective way to retrain specific muscles as it allows visualisation of muscle contractions while the body is at rest or during an ongoing activity.
Deep muscles
The deepest layers of your muscles are often difficult to see, feel and therefore activate. RTU provides visual feedback to isolate and develop awareness of these deeper muscles.
Lower Back Muscles
The RTU is helpful in assessing both the deeper abdominal and lower back muscles to ensure specific exercises can be targeted to help balance and strength in this area. Research indicates that these muscles help stabilise the spine, assist with reducing back pain and decrease the chance of re-injury.
Pelvic Floor Muscles
The RTU is very effective in identifying pelvic floor muscle weaknesses and retraining these muscles to help those with pelvic floor dysfunctions and incontinence issues.
Rehabilitation & RTUI
RTUI is used to train these core stability muscles for first time and chronic lower back pain injuries. It is also important in later stage rehabilitation of many other sporting and postural injuries. The RTU is also very effective in identifying pelvic floor muscle weaknesses and retraining these muscles to help those with pelvic floor dysfunctions and incontinence issues.
Bullcreek Physiotherapy has incorporated RTUI into rehabilitation since the practice was established. Our physiotherapists are expertly trained to use the Real Time Ultrasound to diagnose your problem as well as devising an appropriate exercise program for you. Further information is available at the practice if needed, or alternatively, call our friendly staff for an appointment.
